Getting sandbagged…

This is an interesting development, as I listen to a consultant for the Council of State Governments deliver a presentation on Medicaid expansion to members of the Legislature. It appears that Dave Hewett, lobbyist for the South Dakota Association of Healthcare Organizations, plans to speak next. He was one-half of the effort to raise the state sales tax last fall. Voters rejected the increase, including the half that was supposed to be spent on Medicaid expansion. The Hewett presentation wasn’t mentioned on the handout from the six legislative leaders promoting the CSG presentation.

Keep connecting the dots. The more we raise taxes, the more we spend on medicaid, the more we spend on healthcare, the more we implement Obamacare : the more Dave Hewett and his organization of the BIG hospitals benefits. And we still call them “non-profit”???

beenthere is absolutely right –almost. While Dave Hewett and SDAHO represent the BIG hospitals – west river it would hospital (singular), the monopoly that systematically swallows up any competition – he also represents the small healthcare business that works everyday to keep their head above the rough waters of the Regional ocean. It is these businesses that are drowning under the lack of Medicaid funding while Regional stands by, counts their money and strategizes it’s next takeover

There needs to be NO tax increase.

In fact every person who is now insured, or is paying Hospital bills is paying a HUGE invisible tax. When someone who is not insured, who would fall into this 48,000 person group – most of whom are the “working poor” some with two jobs – the hospitals raise the charges for insured and personal payers, They must — they cannot turn a needy person away — but they cannot go broke either.

This hidden tax is somewhere around $9million that is MILLION per year (from Hospitals alone). Nursing homes, Mental Health Centers, assisted living centers, etc.etc.etc. period increases this.

Who are the legislative proponents of Medicaid expansion?

The Dems ,who falsely think that spending more and more federal tax money is somehow “economic development”. Plus a few rino repubs who carry water for the big hosptal monopolies.

Republican Governors who have signed on to Medicaid expansion in 2013:

    Snyder of Michigan
    Kasich of Ohio
    Brewer of Arizona
    Martinez of New Mexico
    Dalrymple of North Dakota
    Sandoval of Nevada

So it is possible to get past partisan R talking points after an election and when you do the math – at least in other states.
