Pat Adam of Pierre has retired from the board of trustees for the South Dakota State Historical Society. Pat, a sister of the late Gov. George S. Mickelson, had served as a trustee since 1991. I mention the family connection because it was during George’s governorship that the state Cultural Heritage Center was built as part of the South Dakota statehood centennial in 1989. The center is the home to the society. Pat’s many contributions included serving as historical society president from 1996 into 2004. Gov. Mike Rounds recently appointed Lower Brule Sioux Tribe chairman Michael Jandreau as her successor.
One of State Historical Society’s best steps aside
