Well it was kind of fun while this and original forum lasted.Plenty of wild discussions over the years.So many people with opposing views to stir the pot.Not to mention when the trolls invaded.That was wild indeed.But i guess everything ends sometime.Last poster turn out the lights

OK, Fred... Something about a picture that one of the members found offensive... Picture apparently removed and Forum shut down for a few days while things were sorted out. When I talked to Nick Pharris it didn't sound like the Forum would be back.. too labor intensive and a headache for the AAN...who feared legal implications...But.. here we are. Do you think the others will return?

Good grief, I'm not calling up Mcclusky. He's moody even on a good day. Surely you can divulge some info without the roof falling in. Fight between two posters? Fight between one poster and an anonymous aan employee? I'm mean really, I doubt you'll get a visit in the middle of the night from a couple of aan employees carrying rubber hoses and blackjack's. Looks like you, litdoc and I are the only two left here anyway. We might as well make the most of it.

Other folks in the IT department such as Nick Pharris may also have some light to shed on the subject. Scott.. Didn't hear anything about Pork... at the C*R*A*C*K*E*R barrel... Heard lots about cuts.. and keeping the budget balanced. Explanation was that there are lots of candidates for state offices and no one wants to stir up taxpayer ire by excessive spending.

Was shopping in Shopko in Aberdeen today.. and noticed that they have the new Sony EReader's.. I don't have a financial interest in Sony... but.. was pleased to see that the new technology has reached Aberdeen! I really like my Ereader..now that it set up. Unlike the Kindle, I can download books to my reader from anywhere.. including several sites where there is no charge. Anything under copyright has to be purchased.. But.. most of the classics are copyright free and available from sources such as Project Gutenberg at Brown University. It took a bit of doing to program the reader.. especially since I have a dialup, slow internet connection. But.. the books download fairly quickly... and.. it is pretty easy to get them onto the Reader. And.. I love it that I can carry around the books in my purse.. The EReader holds 350 books... many more than even the LitDoc needs to have!! It is also possible to download newspapers such as the Chicago Tribune and the New York Times into the reader. I wonder if it is possible to download the American News in an Ereader, Kindle, Nook...? Does our moderator know the answer to that? Would be interested in knowing if that is possible.. as the AAN site and some of the downloadable newspaper sites are very similar. It will be fun to see this technology disserminate through our community... now that the first and second generation ereaders are actually here in Aberdeen. Walmart has a very basic Sony ereader.. but.. the second generation one has more features.. such as an underlining and notation function... Would be interested in knowing others experiences with these ereaders of any variety.

My new Ebook reader arrived yesterday... and.. it is so cool. I won't ever have to set foot in the Alexander Mitchell Public Library again to get a book.. So.. does anyone else have an ebook reader... or.. plan to get an Ipad? Wat do you all think of this new technology

Glad to see that the Forum is up and running again...I've missed you all! Word to the wise... mind your p's and q's.... and.. let civility and kindness reign on the Forum! Freedom of Speech does not permit inflammatory comments.. One cannot yell "fire" in a crowded theater.. And.. the bottom line is this.. the American News is a business that relies on the good will and advertising of the community to survive. It is responsible for what is posted here..and can't allow libelous or inappropriate posts.. So.. let's get on with it... keeping in mind that this posting on this place is a privilege... not a "right"... Let respect and civility prevail!

Yep... you are correct Gertrude... So.. I am sure Julie will be at the first Crackerbarrel... and there is plenty of time for questions.. either through the legislators or Julie directly.. as I am sure she will be there.. As for a specific platform.. well.. that might be hard to track down... but.. one can certainly review the bills that are introduced... who testifies for the bills.. what happens to them... that certainly is a matter of public record... and very easily checked through the internet.. Are you confident that you can do that? If not.. I'll post some more sites for you to look at... Our legislature is pretty easy to follow on line... although nothing quite beats being there.. and watching the interactions that take place.. especially on the 3rd floor in the Lobbyist Lounge right outside of the Senate. Major deals are brokered there... In my discussions with some of the legislators.. they don't always agree with the platform that Julie may or may not be defending.. but.. if you look at her list of clients.. and.. what their interests might be.. well... you can see where there might be some conflicts and disagreements.. I am thinking the process is fairly transparent, Gertrude.. if one takes the time to work at it... And.. anyone can hire a lobbyist... or go to Pierre and have their say. Our Crackerbarrels are also very accessible.. we get plenty of chances to influence the course of affairs.. And.. that, no matter what your political beliefs, is what makes our system the best in the world.

No one is bashing anyone? What have you "headed" off? Upon review of Ms. Johnson's lobbying affiliations this year, it appears that she is employed only by entities that are funded in part by civic tax dollars. That is all the more reason that the platform she is defending must be reviewed by the populous. For better or worse this is a matter of open government.

Zenith your post about length is hilarious, thanks for the suggestions. I happen to love winter....but this one did start with an initial snow fall in October...if you will remember it was one of the coldest in a long time. November until the end of the month was quite pleasant. Length is all relative to your outlook and what you can do in the snow. Personally, if I fall on the ice or snow, it will be a new hip and two new knees, I don't think anyone would wish that on another person. Let's make some snow angels and hope that there are very few accidents during this storm, unlike the past one.
